Age of Mythology Gold Edition available for PC for free keeps the same mechanics of the Age of Empires saga and it is so similar in some aspects that can be consider an spin-off. However, it counts with 3D graphics and it's not focus on historical accuracy, but focuses on the mythology ad leyends of Egyptian, greek and Norse.

New concepts are introduce in the game like: the settlements, new resources. Olso, the selection of strategies is added before advancing age inspiration that is reflected years later in Age of Empires III. Like many strategy games, the game features an expansion from 2003 called Age of Mythology: The Titans Expansion.
